Doing daily reparations in plastic objects of common use, like a waste bin, a toy or a plastic slide, is a simple job if we have an extruder gun. Unlike the joins with putties or glues, a welding of this type guarantees us the durability and its resistance to new impacts and damages.

The extruder gun is a light tool that can be handled with only one hand, so the other one is free. Also it is about a quick process that can be done at home because it doesn’t need large spaces or extraordinary safety measures, and which doesn’t involve an important economic outlay. If you don’t have an extruder gun of the many ones that there are in the market, it is advisable to buy it together with a pack in which it is included the fittings that we could need.

The following steps are to do the reparation:

    1. If it is about a waste bin or an object that helps to contain water or other liquids, it is essential to empty it to be able to work with comfort.
    2. Then, we clean the area that we want to weld. We will put especial attention in the case that there are food leftovers, grease, liquids or dirty in general. Depending on it, the welding that we are going to do will be effective. It is advisable to clean a little more far beyond the area where the crack is.
    3. With a drill (it doesn’t need to be big) we will do a hole in each one of the ends of the crack. If the break is not of big dimensions it will be enough with a small hole, although it is essential to be precise. With this operation we will impede that the crack enlarges while we are doing the welding.

  1. We will prepare the extruder gun according to the manufacturer’s indications. Once it is reached the temperature corresponding to the type of plastic which we are working with, then we will start to preheat the area of the crack and a little more around.
  2. With a hand, we will put the rod at the same time we apply heat with the extruder gun with the other hand (this usually happens with the models of simple welders). The models of Munsch extruders have an automatic welding rod feed, so you only have to put it in the machine and pull the trigger to weld.
  3. With the material already cool (we will have to wait a short period of time), we will proceed to cut the excess of the melted rod or simply scratch up to leaving it uniformly. To cut the excess it can be used a cutter… and to scratch it, a scraper.
  4. We will check that the welding is well done and that it is resistant to movements and impacts, and so we will finish the reparation.
